Rare Antique Australian Lithgow Pottery Large Glazed Jelly Mould C1890

RARE ANTIQUE AUSTRALIAN LITHGOW POTTERY LARGE GLAZED JELLY MOULD C1890. Presenting this amazing and rare Victorian era large glazed pottery jelly mould attributable to Lithgow Pottery - Australia circa 1890. This rare and highly collectable jelly mould features a reverse reed design to its inside. The result is that when the jelly is turned out from the mould, it is in the form of an oval shaped, reeded, stepped, wobbling tower and the result would look absolutely sublime!!! The jelly mould is oval in shape and has been glazed in a superb and earthy mottled brown glaze.

The glaze is high gloss and really shows the colour and design to full effect. The jelly mould rests on a sturdy and generous foot and would have ensured stability as well as convenience of use. This amazing Victorian era jelly mould dates from circa 1890 and would have been an essential piece for the Victorian kitchen.

The shaped jellies that this mould would have turned out during its years of dedicated service would have really impressed family and guests alike! One can only imagine the headline news, the scandals, the romance, the heartache and the idle gossip that this piece has heard during its 130 years! This beautiful and collectable jelly mould is attributed to Lithgow Pottery. Lithgow Pottery was established in 1833 and began producing pottery in the N.

W mining town of Lithgow. Their pieces were favoured by the Australian working class as they were more affordable than English made pottery.

Early Lithgow Pottery pieces are now rare and have become highly desireable and extremely collectable. An excellent example of Victorian Era Lithgow Pottery that will be a great addition to any Australian Pottery collection. This Victorian era jelly mould measures approximately 21.5cm in length, 17.5cm in width and stands 11.5cm in height. Unpackaged weight is 1.12kg.

Presented in great condition for its age with no cracks or repairs. As can be expected, there are a few chips to the rim and base of the jelly mould. These can be seen in the photos and in my opinion, really shows the age of this early pottery piece superbly!

This piece has age related crazing as is to be expected with a piece of pottery that is 130 years old. The jelly mould retains its beautiful deep colouring and superb high gloss glaze finish. It displays superbly and will make a welcome addition to any period style or rustic kitchen or dining room. Please feel free to message me if you have any questions or require further assistance.
